Senate President Ronald D Kouchi announces Kaua‘i GIA Awardees

Honolulu, Hawaiʻi – Senate President Ronald D. Kouchi (District 8 – Kauaʻi and Niʻihau) announced today the name of eleven (11) Kauaʻi organizations that were chosen to receive grant-in-aid (GIA) awards from the Hawaiʻi State Legislature.

After a two-year suspension due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Legislature resumed awarding GIA’s this session. In 2019, the most recent year that GIA were awarded, 155 grants were awarded totaling $10,495,000 in operating grants and $19,946,000 in Capital Improvement Project (CIP) grants.

The eleven Kauaʻi organizations that received GIA awards are:

  • Homestead Community Development Corporation ($200,000)
  • Kamāwaelualani Corp. ($25,000)
  • Kauaʻi Economic Opportunity, Incorporated ($327,000)
  • Kauaʻi Economic Opportunity, Incorporated ($260,000)
  • Kauaʻi Habitat for Humanity, Inc. ($250,000)
  • Kauaʻi Housing Development Corporation ($150,000 Kauaʻi Humane Society ($223,000)
  • Kauaʻi Planning & Action Alliance, Inc. ($240,000)
  • Kuamano I Ke Ala O Makaweli ($200,000) Mālama Kauaʻi ($300,000)
  • Mālama Pono Health Services ($200,000)
  • ʻOhana Pacific Foundation ($250,000)

“I want to congratulate these eleven organization on their GIA awards and commend them for the outstanding work that they do in our communities,” noted Senate President Kouchi. “Due to the two-year suspension, we received a record number of high-quality GIA applications. Recognizing that we could not award every applicant, I am pleased that over $2.6 million in funding will be coming to support community organizations on Kauaʻi.”
